Calabash Cat and His amazing Journey

"Calabash Cat and His amazing Journey" by James Rumford

With our two preschool groups, we did two art activities inspired by Calabash Cat. Here is the second one:

Looking at the picture from the book, I made three Calabash Cat drawings with black oil crayon on the big white paper – two cats for kids to paint, and one to glue painted cat pieces later.

That day only four kids were here so two of them were working on one cat drawing. Two kids used blue and pink color, another pair used blue and yellow color.

They enjoyed using droppers to mix liquid watercolors.

Next time we cut and mix the pieces of the two pictures we made, the purple one (blue and pink)  and the green one (blue and yellow).

We glued the cut pieces on our third cat picture, the one without the details that I made in advance.
I made black tempera outline to cover the connections between glued pieces, and it was done. Than I put it on the colored paper background (purple, of course!) and hung it on the wall.
We are all very proud - our Calabash Cat turned out great!
